Teruhisa Okano (Okano-Sensei) serves as an Executive Advisory Board Member in Phemotron Systems Japan. His professional journey began in 1969 at Tokyo Tomin Bank, where he specialized in international business, laying the foundation for a distinguished career in finance. In 1975, he undertook a year of intensive study in the financial markets of New York and London, gaining invaluable insights into global financial practices. Upon his return to Japan, he transitioned to the domestic loan department, serving as an examiner and supervising loan operations across the bank’s branches. In 1986, he was selected by the bank to attend the Wharton School of Management at the University of Pennsylvania, where he immersed himself in US management principles through detailed case studies of leading corporations, including Coca-Cola. This experience proved instrumental in his subsequent appointment as deputy branch manager at a top-tier Tokyo branch, followed by his role in establishing and managing the Tokyo Tomin Bank’s New York branch for four years. Returning to Japan in 1993, he served as branch manager at two locations before ascending to Executive Officer and Head of the International Department, leading the International Finance Division until his retirement in 2004. Post-retirement, he continued his professional contributions as Managing Director of Tomin Leasing, an affiliate of the bank, focusing on leasing operations. From 2007, he served as an external auditor for Union Tool Corporation, a leading manufacturer of semiconductor diamond needles, and Fukuda Denshi Corporation, a prominent medical equipment manufacturer, both listed companies with strong business ties to Tokyo Tomin Bank. He retired from Fukuda Denshi in 2020. Since 2019, he has dedicated himself to the Kagoshima Scholarship Foundation as Managing Director, where he oversees scholarship programs for students from Kagoshima Prefecture and provides guidance in their academic and personal development. His personal philosophy is marked by a profound interest in the universe and a strong belief in the importance of global peace and harmony.
